What is the International Thespian Society (ITS)?
The International Thespian Society (ITS) is the honor society for middle and high school theatre students. High school students can earn membership in the Educational Theatre Association student honorary, the International Thespian Society, the only international honor society for high school and middle school theatre arts students.
How do I become a Thespian member?
Membership is granted for the performance of meritorious work in the theatre arts that meets the Society's general guidelines. The Educational Theatre Association has created a point system based on roles and hours worked in particular theatrical jobs. Thus, students earn points/hours through working on BHS productions as crew members or actors.
Students may fill out the ITS Points Sheet and turn it in to the troupe director or clerk. Once a student has reached 10 points they will receive an invitation to join Belton's Troupe #3491. You can download the blank form here.
When are Thespians inducted?
Induction ceremonies are scheduled to take place during our Awards Night in May.
What happens next after I am inducted?
Once inducted into our Thespian troupe, you still continue to earn points for every production you work on. These points accrue and add up to Thespian Honors. As a Thespian you are eligible to apply to be an officer of will serve as officer for the following school year.
Upon graduation students receive a final honor plaque denoting their Thespian honor status and will receive cords that can be worn at the graduation ceremony.
How do I record my involvement/points earned?
Points are recorded on a points sheet and tallied every month. See the troupe director for blank points sheets.
When do you have meetings?
Meetings are held after school every other Wednesday. Check out the calendar page to find our next meeting.
What is the Texas Thespian Festival?
Each year, Texas Thespians host a state-wide festival which includes over 8,000 delegates. As the largest annual Thespian festival where theatre is everywhere, students and their troupe directors will celebrate an entire weekend of theatre this coming November at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas.
